Family-founded and future-focused, Vidimos Inc. stakes its reputation on precision, flexibility and a commitment to craftsmanship.
For nearly 80 years, Vidimos Inc. has been a pillar of industrial sheet metal fabrication, weaving family tradition with cutting-edge technology.
鈥淢y grandfather started the business in 1946,鈥 says Scott Vidimos, President and third-generation leader. 鈥淢y father worked past 2005. I think I still have a little bit of meat on the bone 鈥 maybe four or five years 鈥 but my son has been working since 2004, and he鈥檚 got a great grasp of the service side of the 产耻蝉颈苍别蝉蝉.鈥
This continuity weaves tradition with fresh expertise and new technology, a blend Vidimos says defines the company鈥檚 approach to service.
The company鈥檚 East Chicago, Indiana, shop spans 60,000 square feet and is neatly sectioned into three bays: light, medium, and heavy. The light bay accommodates sheet metal and light-gauge fabrications, such as flashings and ductwork. The middle bay ups the ante with specialty fabrications and heavier duct systems. 鈥淚n our heavy bay, which we affectionately call 鈥榟eat and beat,鈥 we handle quarter-inch plate, structural steel, tanks, and heavier steel,鈥 Vidimos says. This division allows them to handle around 5 6 million pounds of material annually, ranging from carbon steel to stainless steel to aluminum alloys and even rubber and plastics.

Vidimos emphasizes staying on the cutting edge. The company鈥檚 newest addition, a 10,000-watt fiber laser, cuts through 1-inch carbon steel and 陆- inch stainless steel about three times faster than previous equipment. 鈥淥ur laser tables and plasma table go constantly. They feed almost everything else we do in the shop,鈥 Vidimos says, highlighting the blend of technology and skilled labor.
This investment isn鈥檛 just about speed; it helps the business keep up with the urgent demands of steel mills, power plants, and manufacturers who rely on Vidimos for precision.
Inside the office, five project managers juggle schedules and detailed job specs for varied client bases. Vidimos prides itself on responsiveness and flexibility.
鈥淚f somebody calls, that project manager runs with it; we keep everybody in the loop,鈥 Vidimos says. 鈥淥ur dynamic is that we can adjust schedules on the fly to accommodate our customers.鈥

Technology鈥檚 true impact isn鈥檛 just lasers and scanners; it also lies in the software side. 鈥淲e have three programmers who draw custom parts for us. Two-thirds of what we do is fabrication, so the process is vital,鈥 he says. Customers often send samples, and Vidimos reverse-engineers parts using modeling. 鈥淏ased on precise measurements, we build pieces off the model. When you pull it apart, you know everything鈥檚 going to fit.鈥
Whether it鈥檚 rebuilding a drying oven or fabricating large structural steel pieces, Vidimos quickly adapts to clients' emerging needs. 鈥淭he customer has the concept of what they want but not the steps to get there. That鈥檚 where our design expertise comes in,鈥 he explains.
Vidimos paints a vivid picture of the company鈥檚 quality ethos: 鈥淚 always tell guys, 鈥楶retend like you鈥檙e taking this home and putting it in your living room to show your family.鈥 We want to have quality work coming out of our shop.鈥 This approach resonates through every project, large or small, as the company balances the demands of industrial clients with a commitment to craftsmanship.
our shop, but we鈥檙e at that point now,鈥 he says, adding that team members tidying the shop is a sign of this slowdown. 鈥淲hen I鈥檝e got people out cleaning up, and things are getting tidy, that means we鈥檙e looking for a little bit of work.鈥
Vidimos sees the union partnership as vital, especially in adapting to labor fluctuations. 鈥淥ur relationship with our labor partners is exactly that: a partnership. We both understand we have skin in the game, and we鈥檙e better together than apart. It鈥檚 a binding relationship for pension and contractual reasons,鈥 he says, noting the importance of being ready for tough negotiations but focused on long-term success.
Talk of the future at Vidimos isn鈥檛 just about equipment upgrades; it's also about exploring new markets in architectural and service sheet metal work. Embracing emerging technologies and continuing to nurture skilled members remain priorities. 鈥淭here are some pretty interesting technologies out there that can assist our members in doing their jobs,鈥 Vidimos says. 鈥淎 lot of what we do is driven by the customer. If they鈥檙e looking for something, we find a way to do it,鈥 capturing the company鈥檚 can-do spirit.
Also, next year marks a milestone for Vidimos, as he鈥檒l become president of 麻豆入口 in October 2026. He hopes to be a champion for greater knowledge sharing. 鈥淢y goal would be to be the cheerleader, to help familiarize people with all of the resources available. 麻豆入口 is a volunteer organization, and those volunteers bring great experience to the table,鈥 he says. 鈥淭he programs and resources we have are contractor-driven, and it鈥檚 a matter of spreading the good word.
